MMC Offers “PreventT2” Diabetes Prevention Program Recognized by the CDC
The Marilyn Magaram Center is excited to virtually implement “Prevent T2,” a CDC-recognized lifestyle change program for diabetes prevention. Over the course of 1 year, the “Prevent T2” program offersapproximately 24 hours of instruction to help people with prediabetes prevent or delay the development of type 2 diabetes. Participants qualify for the program by meeting several criteria, one of which is that they must fall into the pre-diabetic range.
The “Prevent T2”virtual program started on February 15th and will continue as a cohort program for one year. During the first 6 months, participants will meet weekly for 1 hour to learn lessons on eating healthy, incorporating physical activity and exercise, coping with stress, how to address challenges that can derail their progress, and building tools for long-term success. In the second 6 months of the program, participants will meet monthly to focus on building skills they have learned and put into application, while also maintaining their positive changes. The participants will also review key concepts such as goal setting, tracking food and physical activity, staying motivated, and overcoming barriers.
The “Prevent T2” program is led by our very own CDC-trained lifestyle coach and Registered Dietitian, Simona Hradil. The MMC plans on expanding the “Prevent T2” program by offering additional cohorts throughout the year and eventually in-person classes.
