Heartbleed Bug

April 24, 2014

As soon as the OpenSSL group informed the world of its Heartbleed Bug, CSUN responded by performing scans on all central servers and we immediately patched any servers that had the OpenSSL version. The central CSUN authentication servers that handle most of the authentication were not impacted. We replaced SSL certificates in all impacted systems. In addition, we contacted CSUN vendors to ensure that systems used by CSUN community have been properly patched. We continue to monitor our CSUN environments.

Google reported that they patched their Google gmail servers, the email used by CSUN students. CSUN faculty and staff use Microsoft Exchange and Office 365 email; the Heartbleed Bug did not affect the CSUN faculty and staff email systems because Microsoft does not use OpenSSL.
