Students are responsible for taking and passing the appropriate test(s) they may need.

CBEST (California Basic Educational Skills Test)

CBEST (California Basic Educational Skills Test)

Description of test: Assess and verify acceptable proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics skills in the English language.

Who needs it? Students who intend to apply to CSUN's Credential Program.

When should it be taken? Before applying to CSUN's Credential Program.

CSET:MS (California Subject Exam for Teachers: Multiple Subjects)

CSET (California Subject Exam for Teachers: Multiple Subject)

Description of test: Assessment measuring general and subject-specific pedagogical skills and knowledge.

Who needs it? Students pursuing the multiple subjects credential who have not demonstrated subject matter competency.

When should it be taken? ITEP students must pass the CSET prior to student teaching. All others should consult with the Credential office.

RICA (Reading Instruction Competence Assessment)

RICA (Reading Instruction Competence Assessment)

Description of test: Written exam or video performance to demonstrate knowledge and skills important for the provision of effective reading instruction.

Who needs it? Students pursuing the multiple subjects credential. See Credential program for more information.

When should it be taken? Immediately after required Reading course in Credential program.
