  • Provides information about academic policies and procedures;
  • Offers information and referrals regarding departmental, college, and university services and resources in response to specific questions, problems, concerns or complaints;
  • Works closely with the Student Services Center/Educational Opportunity Program to deliver academic advisement, services, and resources to students;
  • Serves as a liaison and communicates questions and concerns to the Dean;
  • Informs students, faculty, staff, and community members about College of Humanities-sponsored events, programming, funding opportunities, curriculum development and more.

Ten Questions Most Asked by Students

How do I declare a major or minor?

All students must declare a major by the time they complete 60 units. Students who have not declared a major by this time will have a registration hold placed on their records until they declare a major. Contact the College of Humanities Student Services/EOP Office for assistance in selecting a major at 818-677-4767.

Students may, in conjunction with a major or double major, elect to complete the requirements for one or two minors which have been approved and are listed in the catalog. Per CSUN’s Change of Major and Minor Policy, students seeking to change majors/minors must be able to complete the new major/minor within 140 units. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the College of Humanities Student Services/EOP Office at 818-677-4767.

How do I drop or add a class?

When is it too late to drop or add a class?

The last day to change your schedule without a formal request is the last day of self-service registration for the transaction you want to make (end of week 4). You can find specific enrollment dates regarding late add/drop requests, including the week 4 deadline date for each current semester, on the following site: https://www.csun.edu/current-students/register/late-register.

What do I do if I have a hold on my registration?

  • Undergraduate students with advisement holds must contact an academic advisor in their designated advisement center for the college of their major. The contact number for the College of Humanities Student Services/EOP advisement office is 818-677-4767. Non-EOP Exploratory majors must contact the Matador Advising Hub. EOP Exploratory majors must contact the Advising Resource Center/EOP.
  • Graduate and credential students should contact their graduate or credential program coordinator.
  • Students with financial holds must immediately pay their account balance in full to be eligible to register.
  • All students will have a “Title IX (T9)” registration hold. Students must complete the online training before they can enroll in classes.

What do I do if I have to miss class?

Email your faculty member letting them know you will be absent and, if applicable, ask them for guidance regarding missed classwork.

What do I do if I need an accommodation for a class?

The Disability Resources and Educational Services Office ensures access and support for students who require accommodations. Please contact DRS at 818-677-2684 or email dres@csun.edu to speak with a DRES counselor who will determine eligibility for services and authorize accommodations or support services.

How do I contact the department chair for my major or minor?

Department chairs and program directors can be accessed from the drop-down menu on the College of Humanities website's home page. If you have any problems finding information, you are also welcome to contact the College of Humanities Dean’s Office at 818-677-3301.

Who do I contact if I’m having a problem with a professor?

  • If you are unable to resolve a problem directly with a professor, we encourage you to reach out to the department chair for assistance.
  • You can also contact the associate dean if they are having a problem with a professor. All discussions and correspondence related to faculty will remain confidential.

Who do I contact if I’m having a problem with a fellow student?

We advise students to work with their faculty member first to resolve issues related to fellow student problems in the class. If the problem is with a student outside of the classroom, please contact the associate dean of your major for guidance. All COH majors can reach the associate dean by calling 818-677-3301.
