Civil Discourse and Social Change (CDSC) was awarded a $100,000 California Civil Liberties Public Education Fund grant for 2020-2022. Civil Discourse and Social Change is a CSUN social justice initiative founded in the aftermath of CSUN student mobilizations for undocumented students and against fee hikes and the increasing neoliberalization of the public university during the Great Recession. Dr. Uba, upon her retirement on June 2020, will be Emeritus Faculty in the Asian American Studies Department. Dr. Uba started teaching at CSUN in 1986 and helped establish the Asian American Studies Department at CSUN. She has been teaching in the AAS department for the past 30 years, since 1990 when the department was established. Read more
I am writing to you to remind us all that we are all in this together.We are going through unprecedented times with COVID-19 ravaging the globe. This is a stubborn and voracious virus. And if the impact of the virus on our physical, mental, emotional, and economic well-being is not enough, Asians in the U.S. and around the world are being targeted for hate crimes because of the virus' origination in Wuhan, China. This is all the more reason why Asian American Studies *must* be part of the educational lexicon here in the United States from K-12 through the university. Read more
