Health Care Dependent Re-Verification Requirement
Dependent Re-Verification (DRV) is the process of re-verifying the eligibility of your spouse, domestic partner, children, stepchildren, and domestic partner children (family members) enrolled for state health and dental benefits. Government Code section 22843.1 mandates re-verifying the eligibility of your family members. Government Code section 22959 authorizes extending this review to your family members enrolled for dental benefits.
The eligibility of your family members will be re-verified once every three years. The re-verification period is based on your birth month. Employees born during the following months are required to re-verify family members during 2018: April, July, and/or October.
For those employees with birthdays in October, CalPERS mailed you a letter in July 2018 explaining the process and the documentation required to maintain health coverage for your dependents. Please read and ensure Human Resources has your documents prior to October 1, 2018 in order for your dependent(s) to continue receiving health coverage and avoid cancellation on 11/1/2018.

Student Assistant Summer Wrap-Up and Scheduling Reminder
Wrapping Up Summer Student Employment
As we prepare for the new semester, we would like to remind the campus of some important guidelines for processing student employee appointments, such as the inactivation of the 1874 Summer "Taxable Student Assistant" Job Code.
For details, visit: https://www.csun.edu/sites/default/files/su2018_student_hire_wrap_up.pdf
Reminders for Student Assistant Employment and Scheduling
Semester Breaks
When school is not in session due to semester breaks (outside of the academic semester), continuing Student Assistants may work up to a maximum of 40 hours per week, but may not be scheduled to work overtime. Overtime is defined as more than 40 hours per work week (work week is defined as Sunday through Saturday, even when pay period ends in the middle of a week). A schedule may exceed 8 hours a day provided the total for the work week does not exceed 40 hours. The Controller's Office will not issue payments to Student Assistants in excess of 168 hours for a 21-day period, nor in excess of 176 hours for a 22-day period.
Academic Semesters
During the Academic Semester (please see CSUN campus academic calendar), Student Assistants may work up to, but not in excess of, 20 hours per week total in all positions combined. Please remember to coordinate with the student and the other department(s) where there are multiple appointments.
Split Weeks
When the academic semester starts, or ends, in the middle of a work week it is a “split” week. The FIRST day of the Fall semester is Wednesday, August 22, 2018.
For those students NOT taking summer session courses, and who need to stay within the maximum hours of 20 hour per week through the end of the summer sessions (8/21/18):
- Monday = 8 hours
- Tuesday = 8 hours
- Wednesday = 4 hours
- Thursday = 4 hours
- Friday = 4 hours
Total hours that can be worked in this “split” week scenario is 28 hours.
Minimum Wage Update/Reminder
Although Los Angeles City employers recently saw an increase to their minimum wage amount, CSUN employees follow the California State minimum wage guidelines - our current minimum wage rate is $11.00 per hour.
The next anticipated increase to the CA state minimum wage (which impacts CSUN state employees) will be to $11.50 per hour on 01/01/2019.
