Unmanaged or poorly managed conflict in the workplace leads to reduced teamwork, cooperation, productivity and quality, as well as diminished employee commitment and morale. However, good conflict management skills can prevent these results. Successfully managed conflict can have a healthy, positive effect on your team and your organization. Well-managed conflict is an effective way to bring important issues to light and to open and strengthen the lines of communication and creativity with your team, boss, vendors and even customers. This course will give you insight on managing your emotions and becoming proficient at handling conflict.

We hear the terms diversity, inclusion, and equity used all the time. Sometimes these terms are used interchangeably. The purpose of this training is to provide shared language on what these terms mean and how you can put them into action as a member of the Titan Family to better our community. This class will also introduce the concept of privilege groups and how it might impact individual experiences on campus. This session is for beginners who are interested in a foundational overview of DEI concepts and practices. There are no pre-activities required.

CSU Change Management | Community of Practice | September 14

Conversations around justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion are important and necessary to ensure meaningful action; they also can be challenging and fraught with the potential for missteps, misunderstandings, and pushback from students and/or colleagues. Addressing these challenges effectively requires the facilitator to have a strong awareness of their own biases and emotional triggers. In this workshop, participants will be invited to engage in self-reflection (both during and after the workshop) in order to prepare to handle these conversations with compassion and equanimity.

The CSUN College of Social and Behavioral Sciences is pleased to present our 2nd Annual CSUN BikeFest event! Whether you ride for fun, health, transportation, or are just starting out, biking offers something for everyone.

There will be giveaways, vendors, music, food, and of course fun. Interior campus streets will be closed to cars in order to have safe biking. If you do not have a bike, that's OK, bring your skateboard, scooter, mobility device or just your feet. All are welcome to walk and roll with us!

This workshop is for those interested in building awareness of unconscious bias, or looking for a refresher.  During the workshop, we will engage with each other in sharing thoughts, perspectives, and ideas utilizing a variety of zoom tools such as unmute, hand raising, chat field, and breakout rooms.  As such, if able, you are encouraged to turn on your video to connect.

Although no prior experience or knowledge is required, participants are encouraged to attend the other sessions in the Facilitating Challenging Conversations series.
Participants will: Explore the challenges they anticipate facing when engaging in DEI conversations Discuss strategies for establishing shared group norms Discuss strategies for creating equitable and inclusive discussion structures.
