How do You See the World? Faculty Edition | October 2

Description: How you see the world might lead to misperceptions of people and groups that are different from you. This 90-minute workshop is designed to give participants the tools to discover their own personal bias that can shape our perceptions about people and groups, often leading to micro-aggressions that can cause harm and trauma  impacting co-workers, students, even those in your personal lives.
 

Navigating the Audit Trail | October 3

Description: There are risks in all aspects of the campus environment.  Internal controls are the business practices, policies or procedures that help to minimize risk.  This session will provide you with a foundation of risk and internal controls by understanding how they impact our daily lives as well as our work on campus.  By attending this session, you will: be able to more readily identify department business risks; learn the importance of internal controls in all of our jobs at CSUN; be better prepared for potential audits; and learn the "red flags" of fraud.
 

The Basics of Pepper Spray Defense | October 3

Description: For those considering the option to carry or employ any aerosol defense spray, this workshop covers a basic understanding of: the legislative intent, criminal & civil liabilities, moral principles, regulating citizens’ possession & use of aerosol defense sprays; the chemical and mechanical properties; psychological & physiological effects; principles of aerosol defense first aid & decontamination & the principles for maintaining, storing & disposing of aerosol defense sprays. Workshop includes hands-on demo with an inert canister.  Option to purchase a personal canister for your use at the conclusion of the workshop is $6.

Disaster Ready - Fire Safety in the Home and Wildfire Preparedness and Response | October 4

Description: This course will focus on fire hazards, cover fire safety in the home, and address wildland-urban interface fire preparedness and response measures.  Home fires are very common and most are preventable.  We will discuss methods to keep your family and home fire-safe. In addition to wildfire mitigation and preparation, participants will be able to discuss the lessons learned from the 2017 wildfires in CA.
 

American Red Cross Adult CPR and AED (Automated Extended Defibrillator) | October 5

Description: Learn how to respond to cardiac and breathing emergencies in adults, including the use of automated external defibrillators (AED). Upon completion of the course, you will receive a 2 year certificate via email. Only 12 spaces available so please register early!
 

Matador Athletics Faculty and Staff Appreciation Series - CSUN Women's Volleyball vs UC Davis | October 5

Description: The Fall 2018 Faculty & Staff Series includes six home events on campus. For attending four of the six designated games, participants will receive a CSUN Under Armour Pull over or sweatshirt. CSUN Faculty and Staff members will receive complimentary admission to each game and are invited to bring up to three additional guests. All CSUN Faculty and Staff members are eligible to participate by checking in at each game using their CSUN ID. The Athletics Department will have a separate check-in area for participants at each venue in order to track attendance. Premium giveaway items may also be made available for each game, as applicable, at the Faculty & Staff Series check-in table while supplies last.

Disaster Ready - Earthquake Preparation, Response, and Recovery | October 18

Description: This earthquake-specific course will focus on what to do before, during, and after an earthquake to support personal and family safety.  The course will include personal action-items participants can take home to secure furniture and wall hangings, plan for turning off gas and water utilities, creating a family emergency kit, and develop a family plan of communication and reunification.  Participants will also learn what they may need to access resources from their local, state, and federal governments.

Workplace Violence/Surviving an Active Shooter Incident - PART II | October 31

Description: Part II of the workshop will deal with the worst case scenario of an active shooter situation on campus. A dynamic video will be shown and discussion will follow to explain the survival mindset necessary in that situation as well as realistic strategies for dealing with it.
