For Staff: Understanding How CSUN's Classification & Compensation System Works | April 11

We will discuss the factors that are, and are not used in determining the appropriate classification, the types of reviews conducted in the classification process, potential reclassification impact(s), and classification appeal process.

Staff attending this session will gain an understanding of: the important components of an effective staff position description, a staff classification review, and in-range progression processes; 2 - and what is the connection between an accurate description, proper compensation, and effective performance management.

For those considering the option to carry or employ any aerosol defense spray, pepper spray, this workshop covers a basic understanding of: the legislative intent, criminal & civil liabilities, moral principles, regulating citizens’ possession & use of aerosol defense sprays; the chemical and mechanical properties; psychological & physiological effects; principles of aerosol defense first aid & decontamination & the principles for maintaining, storing & disposing of aerosol defense sprays.

Building Marshal Training | April 13

Interested in becoming a leader in an already esteemed environment? Come to the introductory training to become a Building Marshal for your campus department! The training will cover evacuation procedures, CSUN hazard-specific emergency procedures, equipment assigned to building marshals, and information about how staff can be better prepared to respond to an emergency situation on campus.

Understanding CSUN's Procurement Policy | April 13

In order to continuously offer engaging and relevant programming to those we serve, while purchasing goods and services for them, we need to keep our “ducks in a row.”  In this session we’ll review the various purchasing options available to you, and look at the procurement matrix; as well as the hospitality expense policy and State Trust & Lottery funding.

Workplace Violence/Surviving an Active Shooter Incident - PART I | April 20

Presenting Part 1 of this two-part workshop Police Services aims to familiarize staff with the range of university resources available and how to activate those resources when responding to a variety of behaviors that may cause concern within your department.  A case study format will be utilized to provide discussion about the key elements necessary when dealing with distressing, disruptive and threatening behaviors.

Saving Money for College Through a 529 Program - Scholar Share | April 24

Come and learn about ScholarShare California's 529 College Savings Plan. Earnings grow tax-deferred, and distributions for qualified higher education expenses are tax-free. California State employees can make automatic payroll deductions, and the money can be used at accredited colleges, vocational-technical schools, in-state or out of state, including eligible foreign institutions. Workplace Violence/Surviving an Active Shooter Incident - PART II | April 27

With the rise in activity and awareness on public shootings across the country their has been an increased number of concern regarding individual safety from the CSUN community. Part II of this workshop deals with the worst case scenario of having an active shooter on campus. Followed by a compelling video and discussion on the survival mindset and realistic situations.
