Calm & HR Present: Are You Making the Most of Your Breaks During the Day?
Oftentimes when we’re deep in our workflow, it can be easy to forget to take breaks before we get back to our projects. And when we do take that time for ourselves, we may feel guilty and eager to return to our task at hand.
But those things can all hinder us from taking quick, effective rest moments for an instant boost that can improve our mental well-being during the day.
Establish your simple routine for taking effective breaks between work tasks with Calm’s resources:
- One Minute Reset

Calling All Student Assistant Supervisors! Participate in CSUN's From Here to Career: Career Readiness Program 2024-25, Info Sessions | July 9, 24
The “From Here to Career: Career Readiness Program”, is brought to you by CSUN’s Division of Student Affairs in collaboration with the Career Center, Human Resources, and the University Student Union. From Here to Career (FHTC) is based on the National Association of Colleges and Employers Career Readiness Competencies which have been identified to help employees be successful in the world of work.
FHTC is looking for CSUN supervisors and student employees to form the 2024 – 2025 cohort! We’re currently accepting registrations until October 2nd, 2024.
Through the 9-month program (September to May), student assistants will learn key concepts and skills that future employers are looking for by:
- Engaging in an online course
- Meet with peer mentors
- Gain access to a designated career advisor
- Learn from CSUN alumni who were student assistants.
As a supervisor, the program will support you by:
- Providing a structured professional development/career readiness program you can implement as part of your student employee’s position
- Access to CareerLink’s Supervisor Toolkit and additional resources
- Build your supervising network and community by exchanging best practices and new ideas (e.g., establishing trust and rapport, setting clear expectations, empowering/motivating your student employees, etc.)
Upon completion of the program, students and supervisors will receive recognition at our FHTC End-of-Year Celebration in May. Enrolled student employee participants have the opportunity to be nominated by their peer mentors and selected to receive our “Outstanding Student Employee” awards.
To participate in this program:
- A CSUN faculty or staff member, who supervises a student employee, must complete the registration form.
- The student employee must be able to commit approximately 30 minutes a month for 9 months within the 2024-2025 school year.
If you are interested in this opportunity and want to learn more about our program, please join an upcoming virtual information session:

Matador Moveout Donation Drive A Success! Check out the Impact Report
We are happy to announce that the numbers are in for the Matador Move Out Donation Drive, a partnership between Sustainability and Student Housing!
Approximately 10,850 total pounds of clothing, non-perishable food, and other miscellaneous items were collected and donated to campus and local partners, including:
- the CSUN Food Pantry,
- Women’s Research and Resource Center,
- Matty’s Closet,
- LA Family Housing, and
- Hope of the Mission.
Some honorable statistics to highlight are that we provided 2,667 pounds of non-perishable food donations to the CSUN Food Pantry which will provide about 7 weeks of food to CSUN students and the campus community and 659 pounds of non-perishable food donations to the Women’s Research and Resource Center. Also, we received about 6,435 pounds of clothing, of which 195 pounds were donated to Matty’s Closet. Most of our donations went to LA Family Housing which services the San Fernando, Santa Clarita, and Antelope Valley’s unhoused populations. By diverting these items from landfill, we saved 2,712 lbs of CO2 equivalent emissions. Click here for the full report!
