Calm Presents: Practicing Radical Self-Care, Build Your Roadmap
The term self-care often has a stigma attached to it - it can be perceived as selfish or even frivolous. However, self-care is essential to our optimal functioning. When we talk about radical self-care, we’re talking about handling the real challenges of being human. This is something that many of us did not learn growing up and can be overlooked in our personal lives and in the workplace.
How often do you practice self-care?
Too often, we let the busyness of our lives get in the way of taking time to feel our feelings, slow down, and check-in with ourselves. Lama Rod Owens, renowned author and Dharma teacher, is on a mission to change that. When we take the time to understand what we really need to feel well, we can provide ourselves with what we need to experience lasting nourishment.
On Calm, your resource for mental well-being and self-care, learn meditation and self-care basics from Lama Rod in the 10 Days of Radical Self-Care program. While you go through the series, build your self-care roadmap with the accompanying workbook, which includes journal questions for reflecting on your meditations.
Whether you’re new to meditation or practicing consistently, this is the perfect place to begin:

From Waste to Wearable: Eco-art and A Sustainable Approach to Artmaking | December 1 & 8
From Waste to Wearable: Eco-art and A Sustainable Approach to Artmaking
November 27 - December 16, 2023
West Gallery
This exhibition is the culmination of a one semester-long collaborative project among five classes (ART 100/L Intro to Art Processes, ART 385/L Children’s Crafts, ART 342/542 Exhibition Design, FCS 320 Family Resource Management, and FCS 471/L Apparel Design) dedicated to addressing the pressing global ecological crisis of our contemporary times.
We firmly believe in the power of art as a potent means of advocacy, with eco-art standing as a leading form of contemporary cultural expression that promotes ecological awareness and sustainability. Our exhibition showcases ecologically conscious work from student artists and designers who have engaged in in-depth research of critical environmental challenges. It is our hope that their artworks not only inspire individual ecological responsibility but also foster connections within the community and encourage sustainable attitudes and behaviors across broader society.
Gallery Talk
Monday, November 27 | 10:00am - 11:30am
Exhibition Reception:
Friday, December 1 | 4:00pm - 7:00pm
This fashion show is the culmination of a one semester-long collaborative project among five classes (ART 100/L Intro to Art Processes, ART 385/L Children’s Crafts, ART 342/542 Exhibition Design, FCS 320 Family Resource Management, and FCS 471/L Apparel Design) dedicated to addressing the pressing global ecological crisis of our contemporary times.
Fashion has the power to reflect and mold cultural changes, and, in this show, CSUN student artists and designers champion eco-friendly materials and ethical practices. Their work reimagines what we traditionally perceive as disposable and breathes new life into these items, thus counteracting the pervasive throwaway culture of our society. Through innovative approaches, they heighten awareness about the significant environmental impacts of our fashion choices, prompting us all to rethink our role in shaping a more eco-conscious and responsible fashion sphere.
Fashion Show:
Friday, December 8 | 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Location: Manzanita Hall, Second Floor
Reception to follow
