National Student Employee Appreciation Week | April 10-14

The National Student Employment Association has declared the second complete week in April each year be set aside to recognize the value of student employees, student employment professionals, and student supervisors.

The purpose of this week is threefold:

  • To enhance awareness of student employment and its important role in higher education experience.
  • To recognize students who perform outstanding work while attending college.
  • To thank YOU, the employer, who hires students for part-time positions and take the time to guide them through the world of work.

Each year colleges and universities across the country recognize the importance of student work experience during national student employment week. Student employment offers students career-enhancing opportunities, the ability to develop skill relevant in any career, and better preparation for the job market upon graduation. Each year CSUN celebrates NSEW during the second full week of April. This week enables us to recognize and thank CSUN students for the contributions they make as employees to the University and the Northridge community. Whether your student employees are working in-person or remotely, we encourage you to use your creativity to celebrate your student employees in new and exciting ways. If you need some ideas to get started, please refer to this Student Employee Appreciation Infographic. We have also created editable “Appreciation Certificates” that you can present to your student employees.

Remember this is a week-long celebration, try and do something different every day of the week.

HR & Calm Invite You to Take a Preventative Approach to Burnout and Stress

None of us are strangers to work stress and the burnout that can come with it. When this happens, you're likely to feel less productive, less creative, and more disengaged.

While we might not be able to completely eliminate stress in our lives, we can start setting boundaries and develop healthy coping mechanisms that’ll positively impact us in the long run.

Try the following recommendations from Calm to continue on your burnout and stress prevention journey:

7 Days of Managing Stress

  • In this 7-part series, guided by Tamara Levitt, you’ll get a toolkit for mastering stress—from Creating Balance to Mind-Body Connection

60 Second Reboot

  • In this 1-minute guided meditation, led by Chibs Okereke, you can quickly re-center yourself and ease any tension or anxiety whenever you need it during the day.

Upper Body Stress

  • In this 6-minute Daily Move session, led by Mel Mah, you’ll do a few light stretches for your upper body to release any stress that’s still lingering in you.

Sphere

  • The Sphere album is music for relaxation and was created to help embrace the breath and cultivate stillness. Harlan blends his cello playing with analog synths to produce a hybrid of classical and ambient music.
