NIH Grants for Undergraduate and Pre-Doctoral Research Training

We pleased to announce HERE Center Small Grants for conference travel and supplemental funding for existing research projects! HERE Center Researchers or Affiliates are eligible to apply for these funds by completing the attached application(s). Details for each grant are listed on each application.

1. Grant #1: Conference Travel Funding

HERE Center Faculty Researchers and Faculty Affiliates are invited to apply for funds to support travel to research/professional conferences. A total of 3 awards will be issued per academic year. These funds are provided by the HERE Center and must follow guidelines as specified in this application.

• Request for funds cannot exceed more than $1500 per academic year.
• Faculty Researchers may apply for these funds once per academic year.
• Faculty Affiliates may apply if they have not been awarded with travel or supplemental funding in the previous year(s). 
• Faculty who received the HERE Center’s supplemental support are not eligible.
• To be eligible, faculty must be the listed presenter for an oral or poster presentation and submit supporting documentation verifying status and acceptance.
• The research being presented must be aligned with the HERE Center’s vision and mission.

 2. Grant #2: Supplemental Funding

HERE Center researchers and affiliates are invited to apply for funding to supplement an existing funded-research project. These funds are provided by the HERE Center and must follow guidelines as specified in this application.

• Request for funds cannot exceed more than $1500 per academic year.
• Faculty Researchers may apply for these funds once per academic year.
• Faculty Affiliates may apply if they have not been awarded with travel or supplemental funding in the previous year(s).
• Only faculty with current, existing funded research may apply. Existing funding mechanisms can be external grants (NSF, NIH, Foundation, etc.) or internal grants (Campus Quality Fee, etc.).
• If applicable, applicants should describe how their project involves students, such as through mentorship, research opportunities, or learning experiences.
• Applicants should outline how their project addresses health equity issues or contributes to the promotion of health equity within their research area. Additionally, applicants should provide a concise statement highlighting the alignment of their project with the Center's goals.

Application Timeline: The 2023-24 application is closed. The 2024-25 application will be open to current HERE Center Faculty Researchers and Faculty Affiliates from October 15 to December 15, 2024. Completed applications should be submitted via email to Amber Bui.
