Why should I become an EMBARC Peer Mentor?
As a CSUN transfer student who has successfully navigated the transfer process, becoming an EMBARC Peer Mentor offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to pay it forward. EMBARC Peer Mentor play a crucial role in guiding community college students from their pre-transfer campus through mentorship, workshop facilitation, and community building. Rooted in Cultural Mismatch Theory (CMT) and Community Cultural Wealth (CCW) frameworks, EMBARC embraces and celebrates the unique strengths that students bring from their family upbringing and cultural backgrounds. This approach aims to create a supportive environment that recognizes and values students' diverse lived experiences.
EMBARC Peer Mentors will receive training to deliver professional development skills workshops to peers at their community college, such as communicating with faculty, and training in professional and research skills that are relevant to your academic journey and future career.
