Prolacta Bioscience Foundation — an organization dedicated to advancing infant nutrition and improving neonatal healthcare — recently contributed $25,000 to support CSUN’s “Promoting Human Milk in the NICU” project.
Vanessa Scott, President of Prolacta Bioscience, said the foundation is "proud to support these educational efforts that will positively impact our future generations, whether they are students, parents, babies, or educators."
The gift will provide scholarships for low-income CSUN nursing students to complete training to learn effective strategies for promoting the use of human milk in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Research demonstrates that human milk improves the health outcomes of medically fragile infants in the NICU.
Prolacta’s gift is the first contribution toward a matching endowment created through a grant from the U. S. Department of Education’s Hispanic-Serving Institutions Program supporting the Abriendo Caminos/Creating Pathways project. The U.S. Department of Education will match every dollar donated toward the endowment, up to a maximum of $250,000, to provide support to nursing students in obtaining training in human lactation.
