Exploring the Role of Environmental Health in Health Administration

October 18, 2021

jennifer newmanAs we continue to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, health administration professionals are seeking ways to better understand the ways hospitals function with a focus on improving systems for all who use them. Jennifer Newman (Health Sciences) has been awarded funding from the Southern California National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Education and Research Center (SCERC) to fund the project, “Exploring the Role of Environmental Health in the Health Administration College Curriculum”.

She will explore the role of health administration and environmental and occupational health practitioners in dealing with the pandemic.  Her research will also examine the crucial relationship between health administrators and environmental and occupational health practitioners, as well as the workplace advantage for hiring graduates with degrees in Health Administration who also have knowledge in environmental and occupational health. Health Sciences faculty Frankie Augustin will be working with her on the study.

Newman has done extensive study in Public Administration and Environmental and Occupational Health. She is a Registered Environmental Health Specialist who focuses on the ways in which public policies impact health outcomes, particularly among underrepresented and vulnerable populations.
