CSUN Among Few Universities in US Offering Lactation Education Courses

CSUN is now one of the few universities in the United States that offers lactation education courses to its undergraduate and graduate students. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that new mothers, whenever possible, breastfeed their babies exclusively for the first six months of life. But that’s easier said than done for a lot of women.Societal norms and cultural misconceptions still make breastfeeding uncomfortable for some new mothers. Rosa Angulo-Barroso Joins International Collaboration to Study Effects of Iron Supplementation on Infants

Iron is keeping pregnant women healthy across the globe. But what impact can it have once the baby is born? Research by HHD kinesiology professor and international collaborator Rosa Angulo-Barroso, explores the effects of iron supplementation on the motor development of infants, and the preliminary findings are positive. A study published in the Pediatrics Journal earlier this year, revealed iron supplementation in early infancy has a positive effect on the use of of large muscles and locomotion. Read more
