How a Traveling English Soccer Club Helped Popularize the Sport

Chris Bolsmann (Kinesiology) recently published a history of the Corinthians Football Club, a London-based soccer team from the 1880s through the 1930s, which is credited with popularizing the sport around the world. “English Gentlemen and World Soccer: Corinthians, Amateurism and the Global Game,” written in collaboration with Dilwyn Porter (De Montfort University) was inspired by a photograph. “I was given a photo of an old soccer team, the Corinthians, and it got me interested in why they [were] in South Africa in the first place,” Bolsmann said. A Hidden Pocket for Kids' Insulin Pumps: Graduate Apparel Designer Madelynn Esquivias

Graduate student Madelynn Esquivias is using her talents as a clothing designer to make life better for kids: She designed a line of childrenswear with sturdy, detachable (and transferrable) hidden pockets for insulin pumps. Madelynn looks for ways to help others be happier, healthier, and more comfortable. In 2016, inspiration struck. “I remember exactly when I thought of it,” she said. Read more
