CSUN Launches New Program to Support Black Students

Eleven teens who are part of an innovative program to help bolster college retention and graduation rates among Black students will start their journey at CSUN this month. The teens are part of the first cohort of the Bridge to the Future (B2F): Black Scholars Matter (BSM) program.  HHD's Interim Dean, Mechelle Best, is on the advisory board for BSM and was a member of initial planning community. She will be hosting events for the group on an ongoing basis, including an October trip to the Department of Recreation and Tourism Management's Aquatic Center at Castaic. CSUN President Erika D. Beck took a brief break from campus this summer to visit another kind of classroom — this one on the shores of Castaic Lake in the Santa Clarita Valley. On Aug. 11, Beck toured the CSUN Aquatic Center. It was her first visit to the key teaching facility within the Department of Recreation and Tourism Management, in the College of Health and Human Development. Read More About President Beck's Visit
