First, Life-Saving Information: It’s a tough editorial decision to choose where to put the stark reality of danger in an otherwise lighthearted document.  As it is critically important and useful, I’m putting it right at the top:

The CSU Chancellor’s office has shared a video with vital information about what to do should an active shooter situation arise.  Please take nine minutes to review this potentially life-saving video.

 On to the lighthearted content…

professor for a day? count me in!Professor for a Day is just a few weeks away!  It’s Wednesday, March 28th.

If you have any classes on Wednesdays, you can host an alum or community professional to visit your class for Professor for a Day.

This is a great opportunity for students to connect with professionals from your discipline and open doors to new career ideas.  Contact Lauren Lafferty, HHD External Relations, 818-677-7333.

The HHD Commencement Committee begins meeting regularly March 8th and will meet monthly until Honors Convocation and Commencement in May.  So be on the alert for important information from your department’s commencement representative.  Students with questions about commencement (including department receptions) can find it at the CSUN Office of Student Involvement and Development (also casually referred to as “the commencement office.”)

And remember: GradFest is March 14 and 15, is 9am – 6pm at the Campus Store.

The Dean's List names students in the college of Health and Human Development who achieved a GPA of 3.5 or higher in 12 units of graded classes and is published several weeks after spring and fall semesters end. Please let your students know there’s a direct link to the Dean’s List on the HHD main page.  This link works too!

CSUN Human Resources wants you to know “The 52nd Annual Staff Service and Recognition of Excellence Awards event will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018.” The deadline to nominate a staff member for an award is March 15th.   Award descriptions, criteria, and eligibility information as well as the nomination forms are here.

hhdtechHHD Tech Wants You to Have Greater Wi-Fi Freedom. When connecting to Wi-Fi at CSUN, you should chose the EDUROAM (pronounced: ed-you-rome) wireless network.  When connecting to EDUROAM, always use your full email address including the “@csun.edu” part.

There are many advantages to EDUROAM including the fact that your wireless connection will persist for weeks or months without your having to log back in every day.  Another great thing is that if you use the EDUROAM network (and log-in with your full email address) you will be automatically connect Wi-Fi networks when visiting hundreds of different educational institutions both local and around the world!

EDUROAM allows you to ROAM to different EDUcational facilities without having to have an account and password at the place you are visiting.  Use the following links to see all of the places you can use EDUROAM today with your CSUN credentials:

  • LA County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs

Pssst! Web One Publishers, do you ever wish you could make it easier to post and share news and events in Web One?  If your department or center site is in Web One it’s so easy it’s nearly ridiculous!  When publishing your news stories, use “Invite Groups” to make requests for your story to appear in others’ newsfeeds – you can go campus wide with the invitations.  Wonder if anybody’s sent you an invitation to share?  In Web One, on your main page, in edit mode, look under your “Groups” tab.  Look for “Event sharing invitations” or “News sharing invitations.” No more re-creating material that already exists!  Sharing is caring!  Here is your storehouse of Web One guidance materials.  (Be sure to create a compelling lede image, 92px square @72dpi.)

We’ll be back in a couple of weeks with more HHD News to Use and Share! (It’s a thing now.)

PS: CSUN’s Spring Break 2018 is March 19 – 23.

HHD is on Facebook and Twitter.  Follow us—it’s good for your health and human development!

Thank you for reading and sharing!
