The CSUN Geography Department and the Geography Map Library are proud to host an event with notable Los Angeles geographers and scholars, James Allen and Gene Turner. Allen and Turner, emeritus faculty of the CSUN Geography Department, are co-authors of the award-winning book The Ethnic Quilt: Population Diversity in Southern California, published in 1997. That seminal book, based in part on their analyses of U.S. census data, provided an in-depth look at 34 of our region’s ethnic groups. Their talk will focus on the recent updating and expansion of that book in the form of an online publication titled The Changing Ethnic Quilt of Southern California. Allen and Turner will discuss updated findings from their research, including the relative income levels of various ethnic groups, their changing distributions and neighborhoods, and their employment niches and rates.
The talk will be accompanied by an open house of the Geography Map Library. Light refreshments will be served in the Whitsett Room.
