"Representations of Black Women in the Media: The Damnation of Black Womanhood."

Exploring the role that racism, misogyny and media play in the representation of Black womanhood, this book provides an in-depth analysis of contemporary media portrayals of Black women and a foundation for challenging negative representations of Black women. Television dramas, reality television shows, and news coverage of First Lady Michelle Obama are discussed as they reinforce stereotypes of Black womanhood. Dr. Marquita Gammage will provide a lecture and live reading of her book "Representations of Black Women in the Media: The Damnation of Black Womanhood." Read more
