Rooted in Critical Race Theory, this presentation investigates the lived experience of Deaf people in the United States. By using an intersectional analysis of the lived experience of the Deaf community we discuss how audism interacts in the matrix of dominance with other isms plaguing our society. Audism is a relatively new term, first coined in 1975 by Tom Humphries, to label the oppression that Deaf people face every day.
