Self-care, relief, and generosity

November 9, 2020

Dear MDECOE Community,

This week marks the presidential decision and with it, a welcome sigh of relief in the possibility of healing as a nation. There is much work ahead, and it involves many choices in order to move in a positive direction. As one choice, instead of dwelling on negative thoughts of what has been, or worrying about what might come next, acting now to reach out in kindness to others, regardless of beliefs, may be one way to a better future. And selfless acts have the added benefit of not only contributing to a better world, but also can lead to a sense of well-being in oneself, according to Phillipe Tobler and Ernst Fehr (Nature Communications, 2017). https://www.nature.com/articles/ncomms15964

Generosity and caring can help to heal the world around us, and in the process, may contribute to happiness and peace in ourselves.

May we all contribute to a better world in our future.

Warmly,
Shari and Josh
