Self-care and resetting

Dear College of Education Community,

It’s not unusual to experience periods in our lives when we just don’t feel like ourselves.  We might feel overwhelmed, burnt out, unmotivated, or tired of the same routine. These feelings can mean that it’s time to hit the reset button and reflect on how we need to make a change, whether that be a change in our perspective, our health routines, our current situation, or a need to just be kinder to ourselves. Here are some suggestions:

  1. Do something kind for yourself that comes easily, and is not a struggle.
  2. Know that you are doing your best, and engage in compassion for yourself. Put in check any negative self-talk. Be patient with yourself.
  3. Look at how you arrived at where you are right now and appreciate the good in your life. Reflect on where you would like to see yourself in the future.
  4. Reach out to your trusted relationships: This can be your friend, partner, family member, or counselor. Find that person who provides you inspiration, knowledge, and support, and who also keeps you honest and on track. Talk about how you are feeling and what you need to do to reset. The support of others can really help!

For a list of other self-care options, you can also go to our COE self-care website for resources for faculty, staff, students, and the community at

When feeling exhausted and overwhelmed, it’s good to know that resetting is a way forward.

Warmly,
Shari
