Dear College of Education Community,
This week we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day and reaffirm our ongoing commitment to racial and social justice as a form of self-care. As stated by the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Healthy Minds Innovations (HMI) Center, “For many, this holiday is spent as a day of reflection and service, honoring King’s anti-racist, non-violent work in a time of an unprecedented social reckoning and increased violence across the nation.” In recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the HMI Center offers the following resources for self-care as it relates to our work in racial and social justice:
- Consolidated list from Harvard University, including
- Black-led self-care resources for mental health,
- information about racial bias in scientific fields,
- support for African American Colleagues
- information for allies for engaging in in anti-racism activities and practicing solidarity
- White Ally Toolkit Workbook
- Information on Mindfulness and Racial Justice from the University of Minnesota
