Dear MDECOE Community,
This week, many of us enjoy celebrating various fall festivals. Many families celebrate Halloween, which dates back to 1745, and means "Saints' evening". It comes from a Scottish term for All Hallows' Eve (the evening before All Hallows' Day) “an antidote to fear.” Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, donning costumes and eating treats. Many families also recognize another holiday this week, Dia de los Muertos, celebrated on All Saints Day and All Souls Day, November 1st and 2nd. Dia de los Muertos celebrates the lives of the deceased with food, drink, parties, and activities the dead enjoyed in life. Both holidays are about moving forward with hope and celebration, which can be so healing right now.

May your celebrations this week be filled with family, friends, and self-care!
Warmly,
Shari
