COE Self-Care Fall Activity Highlights

September 1, 2016

Dear College of Education Staff and Faculty,

Welcome back to a new academic year, and a new semester of COE staff and faculty self-care. This fall we will continue some of our previous activities, like mindfulness, sustainable planting presentations, and nutrition tips, but will also introduce new self-care themes that have been requested in the past but not yet offered. These include information sessions on topics such as holistic health practices, healthy cooking recipes using California native plants and herbs, and self-care and the arts. We will start off the semester with a theme of holistic health in September. This includes presentations on mindfulness and health benefits, nutrition and well-being, and acupuncture and traditional Asian health practices. October will have a theme of self-care and the arts. Stay tuned for some exciting presentations in conjunction with the VPAC Oct. 8th gala celebrating the arts in education! And in November, we return to sustainability but with a focus of "putting California on our plates" and cooking with local plants. Please look for weekly emails on upcoming self-care activities, and keep checking the SUN website.

Below are some September self-care activity highlights:

  • Sept 13th, Tuesday 12-1 ED 1214 Mindfulness and Benefits to Our Physical Health: Diane Gehart shares why mindfulness is good for the body as well as the soul! Mindfulness practice included, and regular mindfulness sessions return the following week.
  • Sept. 20th, Tuesday, 12-1 ED Flemming Nutrition and Wellness:  Dietitian Ellen Bauersfeld returns monthly this semester with more nutrition wisdom! The first topic is food that is kind to our stomaches.
  • Sept. 20th and every Tuesday this semester from 2-2:30 in CTL Conference Room: Journey into Mindfulness. Come take advantage of regular mindfulness mediation sessions this semester.
  • Sept. 27th, Tuesday, 12-1 ED 1214 Acupuncture, Acupressure, and Holistic Health Practices: Yoo Kim, Acupuncturist at the CSUN Klotz Health Center and part time instructor on Holistic and Asian traditional health practices.
