A COE Self-Care Activity Extra

September 13, 2017

Who: Faculty and staff interested in a wonderful self-care opportunity to make a healthy change in their lives while helping others can join COUCH to 5K to LA!

What: Train for and run marathons to raise money for good causes and enjoy the added health benefits. The Couch to 5K is for breast cancer awareness with Kaiser Permanente and the 5K to LA is with the College of Education to support Strength United. You can choose to plateau and level off at the 5K altitude or even earlier since you’ll be meeting the CDC requirements for cardiovascular work, or you can continue on and engage in a marathon adventure.

Two training programs are available. The first is the Rising Star Program, which is tailored for those who have little to no running experience or your true couch starters. The second program is the Experienced Program for those who have a higher fitness level, may have running experience, or may have completed a 5k. Both programs, Rising Star and Experienced, consist of a 4-day per week commitment with two of the days being an organized group walk/run and the other two days considered “homework.”

Where and when: Every Monday and Wednesday at the Dirt Jogging Path on the corner of Plummer and Lindley under the Mulberry Tree at 5:15pm. Remember to save the date for Sunday, October 29 for the cancer 5k on CSUN’s campus. This is a free 5k in link with Kaiser Permanente. All donated funds will be sent to breast cancer research and CSUN’s MataCare Fund.

How: Contact Joshua Carlos at joshua.carlos.89@my.csun.edu to sign up, receive more information, and get on the mailing list. Afterward, Kinesiology student pacers will be available to help everyone along!
