COE Self-Care Activities Week Three

September 23, 2015

Dear COE staff and faculty,

We are off to a great semester of self-care! So far, 26 faculty and staff have participated in our first two weeks of self-care activities. So why is self-care important? And why is it good for us to sustain ourselves? Read more about this in a brief but insightful article called "9 Self-Care Essentials to Add to Your Life" on this website at http://www.csun.edu/eisner-education/self-care.

Last week we had a great turnout for the JOURNEY INTO MINDFULNESS presentation with Diane Gehart when she gave an overview of the practice of mindfulness. We found out about how mindfulness can lead to improved physical and mental wellbeing in each of us, and can also be beneficial in both the K-college and the K-12 classroom. The group at this meeting decided on a weekly mindfulness practice time of Tuesday 2-2:30 to be held in the CTL conference room, and we began our meetings last Tuesday with a MINDFULNESS WHILE EATING CHOCOLATE exercise. Yum! Everyone who is interested is welcome to attend on TUESDAY FROM 2-2:30, so come enjoy the benefits of this soothing self-care activity.

Maria King continued to lead weekly walking sessions in her creative WALKING THE PATH tours of campus each Wednesday for half an hour from 12:15 to 12:45.  Last week we took a great walk to the VPAC and found out about terrific reductions for VPAC tickets while strolling through this area!  This week we visited to the brand new Oasis Wellness Center which has resources for both faculty and staff. In the future we'll walk around to see sustainability areas on campus, and also take a walk through the CSUN botanical gardens. Everyone interested please meet in the EPC office Ed 1218 EVERY WEDNESDAY at 12:15! It fun, it's easy, and it's good for you!

I hope you're doing something good for yourself this week!

Warmly,

Shari
