Dear COE Staff and Faculty,
It's been a very difficult week for many of us as we come to terms with the election results. Many students and faculty have experienced anger, grief and fear, which are negatively impacting their work, their relationships, and their health, including stress eating, and poor sleeping. In response to this stress, USA Today and other newspapers are reporting that universities all over America are organizing post-election sessions of meditation, talks and tea. In a similar effort to extend support to our COE community, several talks and other resources are available to support our COE faculty, staff and students this week:
- The faculty and staff self-care nutrition session with Ellen Bauersfeld this Tuesday from 12-1 in Ed 1214 will address healthy eating in relation to stress and temptations to overeat.
- There will be a special post-election faculty and staff self-care meditation session this Tuesday from 2-2:30 in the CTL conference room on the First floor of the COE.
- And you can meditate on your own with the help of several leading meditation instructors, who have put together “election emergency” meditations to offer tips and breathing exercises to help those feeling stressed-out manage emotions at http://www.10percenthappier.com/elections
- Finally, please go to our COE self-care website for other great resources available for faculty, staff, and students to discuss election results and the impact, which were sent in by our own COE community. Look for the post-election resources under Articles and Information.
And next week:
- There will be two open forums for faculty, staff, and students from 6-7 next Monday and Tuesday (11-21/22) to discuss the impact of this election and how to deal with it, which are hosted by Faculty Council, Equity and Student Affairs, and Equity and Faculty Affairs. Look for more emails about location.
Below are our November self-care activities:
