COE Self-Care Activities Week Eleven

April 20, 2015

Dear College of Education Staff and Faculty,

It is WEEK ELEVEN of our COE self-care program and we have only one more week after this before the spring self-care activities end. Starting this week and continuing next week, we will be asking if faculty and staff who have participated in at least one self-care activity would help us out during our activity sessions by filling out a post-survey asking about the self-care activities. (You can also get this survey from Shari Tarver Behring or Carolyn Jeffries. Also feel free to email us with your thoughts if you were not a participant!) This survey is voluntary, you fill it out only once, it takes only a few minutes, and it's anonymous. Because this is a fairly new area in higher education, there has been very little data collected so far on benefits, and improvements to faculty and staff self-care. So our college is on the cutting edge! By completing this post-survey, you will really help with informing our college and the wider educational community as a whole about making regular self-care activities available for faculty and staff. And, it's a chance for you to indicate if you want self-care to continue in our college in the fall, and give feedback about any changes in activities, times, etc. if you do. Remember, this is YOUR program! So thanks in advance for your participation this semester, and for assisting us with this valuable feedback. We will share the findings with all faculty and staff later this summer.

Next week, our self-care leaders will provide resources which will be sent by email and posted on our website about continuing self-care activities across campus over the summer. Please thank them for their work: everyone involved in self-care this spring did it voluntarily, with the exception of our yoga interpreter, who was generously supported by our dean's office!

Sending you lots of self-care energy in these final weeks of the year!

Warmly,

Shari

COE Self-Care Activities Week Eleven

MONDAY, April 20th, 12:15-12:30 in Ed 1216-Mindfulness Mondays meditation with Diane Gehart. Our mindfulness activities are now a part of a larger mindfulness affinity group looking at research and practice of mindfulness across CSUN. Thanks for being leaders in this wonderful way to reduce stress and restore balance, especially in these final weeks of the year!

TUESDAY, April 21th, 12:15-12:45 in Ed 1214/1216 -Tasty Tuesdays presentation with Ellen Bauersfeld. This week, Ellen will be discussing sugar and diabetes. We learn so much from Ellen! She always is open to questions on other nutrition topics. So take advantage of this opportunity in these final two weeks and bring your lunch if you'd like!

WEDNESDAY, April 22th, 12:15-12:45 in Ed 1214/1216-Workout Wednesdays with Emily, Michael, and Nico, our own "personal trainers" from Kinesiology. We've had a small but committed group taking walks on campus each week. Come join us! And please give us feedback on this activity for the future.

THURSDAY, April 23th, 12:15-12:45 in Ed 1214/1216-Thoughtful Thursdays Yoga with Jessica (Jess) Frank and interpreter Catherine (Cass) Kroener. Jess has been leading us in breathing exercises that help us relax, rejuvenate, and reduce stress! No mats needed. Would love feedback about this activity!
