COE Self-Care Activities Spring 2020 - Week 2

January 27, 2020

Dear Faculty and Staff,

As we begin our first week of self-care in the spring semester, I want to recognize that self-care can mean supporting others as well as ourselves. Several members of our COE family experienced a loss of a family member recently. Please extend your thoughts and support to Justine Su and Ellen Edeburn, who lost their mothers, Jan Fish, who lost her husband, and Wendy Murawski, who lost her ex-husband over the holiday break. Our hearts go out to these colleagues and friends. Please let me know if there are others whom we should also be recognizing.

We begin our spring COE self-care activities with meditation from 1:30-2PM this Thursday, January 30th, in the CTL conference room with our wonderful leader Josh Einhorn. Please note that this is the new time for weekly meditation this semester.

And be sure to mark your schedules for our first monthly presentation on Music for Healing  the Body, Mind and Emotion with presenter and musician Brian Lottman on Tuesday, Feb. 4th, from 12-1 PM in Ed 1214. Brian plays the harmonium, an instrument known for reducing stress and rejuvenating the whole body. Come and listen to this soothing music. Lunch will be included.

Finally, as mentioned in last week’s email, we are proud that our COE self-care program will be a featured presentation at the Critical Teaching in Action Conference with the theme “Health, Wellness and Social Justice: Teaching and Practicing Resilience” on Saturday, Feb 15, 2020 from 1:00-2:15PM at Mount Saint Mary’s University (conference cost $20).
