COE Self-Care Activities for July

July 15, 2015

Hey COE faculty and staff,

Did you know that our college is way ahead of the curve when it comes to wellness and self-care according to a number of articles recently in the LA Times? There has been a significant jump in work place wellness activities in the last year according to an article on Saturday, July 5th,  and we are one of those places! And remember those Blue Zones where a large number of people over 100 years old can be found due to healthy lifestyles? Check out a number of Los Angeles Times articles on Blue Zones in the Los Angeles area.  Some of the core values of a Blue Zone include self-care activities and a sense of community, which can be found in our college!

But let’s get down to the facts. We are in the final stages of analyzing the survey responses from our COE self-care activities over the spring semester. Here are a few preliminary findings. Sixty faculty and staff participated in at least one activity this spring. In general, the response to our self-care activities was very favorable, with 90% of those who participated indicating that they would like to do it again! And another great finding was that 58% of faculty and staff who completed the post-surveys indicated that they were engaging in other self-care activities on campus and in the community since taking part in the COE program! More details will be posted on the self-care website later this month.

We will be presenting our COE self-care program and findings at the annual California Higher Education Sustainability Conference next week n San Francisco.  More on that soon.

Hope this finds you enjoying a summer filled with self-care!

Warmly,

Shari
