Special Education Credential Program
The Special Education Credential Program is designed for individuals who are interested in having a positive, lasting impact on the lives of children and youth who have unique learning needs. Credential candidates in special education at CSUN are provided specially designed instruction to meet the educational, social, emotional, and vocational needs of students with disabilities. There is an increasing demand for special education teachers and particularly in urban areas serving culturally and ethnically diverse populations.
CSUN offers Preliminary Education Specialist credentials in four specialization areas: Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Early Childhood Special Education, Mild/Moderate Disabilities and Moderate/Severe Disabilities. Within specialization areas the Department offers multiple pathways to pursue a Preliminary Education Specialist Credential. Coursework in all pathways is scheduled late afternoon/evening or on-line and includes a variety of on-site school experiences through fieldwork, practica, and student teaching.
Through LINCS, data have been collected on field assignments and summarized. The data identify CSUN's school and district partners in the preparation of special education teachers.
