Introducing Hongshan Shao

Hongshan Shao is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational psychology and Counseling. She earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education from Penn State University. Dr. Shao is a National Certified Counselor and Certified Career Counselor. Prior to joining CSUN, she worked as a career counselor at Penn State Career Services. Her research interests include career counseling and development, multicultural and social justice, cross-cultural training, and supervision. She received multiple research grants from professional counseling associations, including ACES, AARC, and NARACES. Dr. Shao has taught a variety of counseling courses: Career Counseling, Multicultural Counseling, Introduction to Counseling, Counseling Theories, Professional Issues in Counselor Education, Individual Appraisal, Foundation of Clinical Mental health Counseling, Practicum, and Fieldwork. She has published her research in peer-reviewed journals and presented her work at national and regional conferences.
