The Education Specialist Credential Program Internship Pathway is available for candidates that are admitted to a Traditional Education Specialist Credential Program, have completed the requirements to be eligible for an internship that are listed below and have been offered full time employment in a public school district in which CSUN has an approved Internship Agreement on file.
Intern Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for an internship, candidates must have met ALL of the following requirements:
- Be admitted to a Traditional Education Specialist Credential Program. For admission requirements and online application click here.
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in the US or equivalent.
- Have completed the Basic Skills Requirement.
- Have completed the Subject Matter Competency Requirement (not applicable to Early Childhood Special Education program).
- Have completed the US Constitution Requirement.
- Have completed all pre-service requirements (to be verified by Intern Coordinator).
To obtain approval for the intern pathway you will need to contact the Education Specialist Intern Coordinator, Fatmana Deniz.
The Intern Coordinator will go over the process and requirements. Once you have submitted all required forms a Credential Advisor will verify that you have met all of the above requirements and are eligible for an internship. If you have not secured an offer of employment and would like to apply for teaching positions as an intern you may request a letter of intern eligibility. You will need to request a Letter of Intern Eligibility Request Form from the Intern Coordinator.
Application Process
Intern Letter of Eligibility
- Request Letter of Eligibility form from the Intern Coordinator.
- Complete and sign the Letter of Eligibility Request form
- Obtain signed Pre-Service documentation form from Intern Coordinator
- Email only the two (2) forms above with required information and signature to credprep@csun.edu.
The Credential Advisor will generate the Letter of Eligibility in 5-7 business days.
Intern Credential Request
Upon securing an offer of employment an Intern Authorization for Employment form will need to be completed
- Download the Intern Authorization for Employment form
- Complete section I of the form and forward to the employer (This is normally a district or charter school operator’s Personnel or Human Resources office, NOT your school site principal).
- Section II will be completed and signed by your employer and email the completed form back to you.
- Once you received the signed form from your employer you will need to send it to the Intern Coordinator to complete section III. The Intern Coordinator will sign this form only after the employer has completed section two. The date of initial employment requested must not be prior to the date you completed the eligibility requirements or the coordinator will not be able to sign.
- Send the following documents to the Credential Office credprep@csun.edu:
- Signed Intern Authorization for Employment form.
- Intern Credential Request form
- Signed Pre-service documentation form (if not on file).
Once the Credential Office has received the required forms we will submit the online recommendation, you will be notified by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) to complete the application which will include a ‘Personal and Professional Fitness’ questionnaire and payment portion of the process. Please note that the CTC processing system requires both an e-mail address and a credit card to complete this step. Payment of $100 must be made within 90 days of the recommendation date or CTC will cancel the recommendation. A few days after making your payment, the CTC will forward a payment confirmation number to you. Provided that there are no extenuating circumstances, the CTC will then send you an e-mail confirming that the credential has been issued. Following that, you will receive one additional e-mail notice which will provide the details of your credential. This final notice is the one you will use for employment purposes. Your credential and all information pertaining to such will appear as granted on the CTC website.
Important Notes:
- Please review the items listed above as “Eligibility Requirements for the Internship Credential.” If you know that you have not yet submitted to the Credential Office, documentation regarding the completion of one or more of these items, you must include them with your Internship Credential Request.
- Please note in order to be eligible for the Intern Credential you must be in good standing in your previous or current university and in the CSUN credential program, if applicable.
- We cannot stress enough, the importance of prospective interns making sure all forms submitted in this process are filled out completely and accurately. If the paperwork comes in correctly and you have met all requirements, an Intern Credential will typically be filed within five working days of receipt. Please note that failure to complete Intern Credential processing, including payment, will jeopardize employment and program eligibility.
