Registration Calendar

There are three registration periods in the fall, spring and summer terms.

  • Registration-by-Appointment — By appointment only
  • Nonrestrictive Registration — No appointment necessary
  • Late Registration/Schedule Adjustment — Starts the first weekday of classes

What you can do in each period varies. For an overview, see Registration Periods. Find dates by term below.

Late Registration / Schedule Adjustment

Week 1 of Classes

  • You may continue to add, drop, or swap classes; or change grading basis (CR/NC) using self-service registration.
  • Permission is not required to add classes (except for restricted classes).
  • Wait listing continues through Monday, Sept. 2, the Labor Day holiday.
Aug. 26 to Sept. 2, 2024, 11:59 pm*

Weeks 2 through 4

  • Permission is required to add ALL classes.
  • Wait listing is not available.
  • You may add, drop, or change grading basis (CR/NC) using online, self-service registration.
  • Finalize your schedule by Sunday, Sept. 22, when recorded enrollments are considered official.

Weeks 5 through 12

  • To add a class, request a permission number from the instructor and enroll using self-service registration.***
  • To drop classes or change grading basis, request approval using the appropriate Late Schedule Change form(s).**

Schedule changes in Weeks 13 through 15 and retroactively are not permitted except for serious and compelling circumstances. Please see Late Schedule Changes.

*Repeating courses is permitted.  Maximum load: 18 units (16 units for graduate students). For exceptions, see Enrollment Limits.

***When adding units, check your student financial account in the CSUN Portal for a possible fee increase, including nonresident tuition if applicable, and the payment due date. If units increase to 6.1 or more, additional fees will be charged. View tuition and other fees and payment deadlines. — Payment Due Date: Monday, Jan. 13, 2025. There is only one payment deadline for the semester. After that, payment is due immediately upon registration.*

Refund Information and Setting up eRefund/Direct Deposit. The last day for a partial refund (drop in units below 6.1) is Friday, Feb. 7, 2025.

Summer Term 2025

Summer 2025 Highlights

  1. You can wait list for classes from the start of Registration-by-Appointment until the end of online registration for each session.
  2.  Summer 2025 classes begin Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the day after Memorial Day.
  3. Summer Term is now offered on a state-support basis. Visit Summer Term Tuition & Fees.
  4. Visiting students may enroll in CSUN summer classes through extension at Tseng College Open University.

STAY RIGHT HERE and use the dates in this state-support Summer Term Registration Calendar if you are:

  • A matriculated CSUN student, that is, you are enrolled in a CSUN degree or certificate program.
  • Admitted to one of the special state-supported, year-round cohort programs listed below.
  • A CSUN student who has received the Summer Enrollment SPRINT Grant. SPRINT students will be notified in April of their eligibility to enroll and in which classes. Eligibility in a previous year does not indicate eligibility in the current year. Learn more about SPRINT.
  • An applicant for the fall semester and pending an admission decision.

Special Year-Round Cohort Programs

You are eligible to enroll in summer classes that are part of a special year-round cohort program if you have been formally admitted to the program. The cohort programs offering summer courses are:

  1. Associate Degree in Nursing to BS in Nursing (ADN-BSN Community College Collaboratives)
  2. Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT)
  3. Master of Social Work (MSW)
  4. Doctoral Program in Audiology (AuD)
  5. Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership (EdD)
  6. Doctoral Program in Physical Therapy (DPT)

Permission numbers may be required to enroll in summer 2025 special year-round cohort courses at all times. Please check with your program advisor.

How to Register

Eligible, matriculated CSUN students should:

  1. First obtain their own registration appointment on a first-come, first-served basis.
  2. Then enroll in classes during the Registration-by-Appointment period and after.
  3. Maximum unit load: 13 units for all summer sessions combined.

Look up summer courses in Class Search. No login is required. Select the following options from the search field drop-down menus:

  • Term: "2255 - Summer Term 2025"
  • Session: "Summer, SPRINT and Cohort Courses" (all three)
  • Subject/Department: Choose the subject you want.
  • Select the Quick Search button.
