- Description

Over the past year there has been much upheaval in online social media spaces. Titans of industry have fallen, and upstarts have been growing slowly in popularity. It can be difficult to remember what platform has alt text, where caption tools are hidden on each site, or how to ensure content created by others is accessible, prior to sharing.
In this session we will review online accessibility basics for social media, including alt text, captions, and color contrast. We’ll explain how to find accessibility tools for both legacy and up-and-coming platforms. We’ll also cover assessing the accessibility of and options for remediating content created by other accounts, in order to share to your own audiences. Finally, we’ll address safeguards for making social media content as accessible as possible, even when there are changes within platforms accessibility engineering teams.
GBH has had a long history of developing and analyzing accessible media. The National Center for Accessible Media (NCAM), will be presenting this up to date social media accessibility information.
