39th Annual CSUN Assistive Technology Conference Has Concluded
A New Metadata Format for Interoperable Accessible Diagrams
- Date & Time
-
Tuesday, March 19, 2024 - 1:20 PM PDT
- Location
-
Orange County 3-4
- Description
-
This session will demonstrate an emerging open interoperable metadata format created to ease the discovery, acquisition, evaluation, and creation of accessible graphical content for a wide variety of people with disabilities. This format, intended for image formats such as SVG, will provide a means to include raw data in a complex image or data visualization, to detail the parameters of a standardized set of assistive technology behaviors such as audio-tactile, haptics, sonification, and braille, to include localization and internationalization, and to tie each piece of the metadata to its graphical representation elements. We will describe the features of the metadata specification, show how it can be used to create new accessible content or remediate existing graphical content, and demonstrate interoperability by major vendors who specialize in data visualization accessibility, including ViewPlus, Vital, and HighCharts.
