A comprehensive discussion of the state of speech synthesis and spoken content on iPhone and iPad, both from a user perspective as well as the developer. We discuss how and why to use features like Speak Screen and Speak Selection, exploring settings both specific and general. We discuss how to make the most of features like Zoom, Magnifier by using speech. We share user scenarios and perspectives to teach how to get the most out of iPhone and iPad. Recent advancements in iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 are demonstrated to show new voices, language support, and options that are now available. Finally, we demonstrate new developer tools to show how using SSML and Speech Synthesis Extensions can enable new voices for the first time on iOS and iPadOS.
