Bricks, Braille, and Learning Through Creative Play

Date & Time
Thursday, March 16, 2023 - 9:20 AM PST
Location
Grand CD
Description
Children have a remarkable inherent potential to learn about the world through play from the very beginning of infancy. Regardless of circumstances, we believe that learning via play is essential for children's healthy growth. Fewer young people are learning braille as a result of the multitude of audiobooks and computer applications that are already available. This is especially important given that blind people worldwide rely on braille to work, study, and live their lives to the fullest every day. Braille Bricks provide a ground-breaking and inclusive opportunity to teach and aid in the development of skills in both sighted and blind youngsters. The purpose of the course is to assist you as a practitioner working with visually impaired kids in using a special and entertaining hands-on tool to teach pre-braille and braille; applying a play-based approach to develop the all-around skills needed to succeed, and working with peers to further develop how Braille Bricks can be used to support visually impaired kids in an inclusive setting. We will give you practical knowledge during this course that will help you fully grasp the concept of learning through play and how to instruct braille in a fun and interesting manner. The use of Braille Bricks to help children with vision impairments develop their academic and specialty abilities will also be covered in detail. We are prepared to play and hope you will join us.
