Evolving the Design Process with Accessibility Annotations

Date & Time
Wednesday, March 15, 2023 - 1:20 PM PST
Location
Grand JK
Description
CVS Health has started to adopt accessibility annotations in the digital design process. Doing so has had innumerable benefits on the enterprise and customer experiences. Thinking about annotations in the design process influenced the design philosophy, and teams made design decisions that were rarely considered prior. This has improved the experiences of our customers by making digital products more accessible, inclusive, and usable. Join accessibility designers Daniel and Kevin in traversing CVS’s journey from relying solely on visual designs, to early adoption of annotations, all the way through to using annotations kits built for individual platforms. See how documenting design intent at earlier stages improves the experiences of real people by encouraging deeper design thinking and reducing overall prevalence of defects caused by design and through bad designer-developer communication. Learn how eventually tailoring accessibility annotations to each platform (Web, iOS, and Android), adds even more value and potential for evaluation to this toolset. By embracing the culture of platform-first design and development, teams are enabled to create products designed for the capabilities and assistive technologies of that platform, as well as the expectations of all the users who leverage them. Ultimately come away with some general steps to follow within your own product organization, whatever stage of maturity it may be at or the size of your teams.
