Remembering Quinten Thomas: The Fight for Justice Continues

Project Rebound, Community Alternatives to 911 and several other entities are presenting a series, "Collectively Understanding Carcerality and Learning Transformative Justice." The series will engage various issues of criminalization and incarceration. The first event, "Remembering Quinten Thomas: The Fight for Justice Continues" will feature Saharra White, who will speak on the struggle to seek some semblance of justice for Quinten Thomas, who was a CSUN student that died incarcerated at Twin Towers on March 9th, 2018. Saharra will be joined by other community activists organizing against racialized state violence.

Reverend Lawson will be teaching a fully online synchronous course on non-violent social change and the Civil Rights Movement in Spring 2021 for the Communications Department, COMS 400C, Course # 10549, Tuesdays, 4:00-6:30PM (Pacific Time). The course is fully online synchronous and is enrolling now.

Course content will cover the history, philosophy and methods of non-violent social change, systemic and intersectional analysis of justice, as well as concrete strategies for equity and justice in the 21st century. Read more

Southeast Asian American Journeys: 45 Years of Resilience, Advocacy, and Organizing

SEARAC is a national civil rights organization that advocates for justice and equality for Southeast Asian American communities on a local, state, and national level. Its work hopes to inspire and empower future generations to fight for social equity for refugee communities, communities of color, and other social justice movements. Katrina Dizon Mariategue will speak on SEARAC’s work promoting refugee advocacy, developing leadership amongst Southeast Asian American youth, building interracial solidarity, and struggling against migrant detention and deportation. CDSC 10th Anniversary, 2010-2020: Ten Years of Vision, Struggle, and Movement Building

This event celebrates CDSC’s tenth anniversary, grounding the initiative’s origins in student activism. CSUN alumni Dr. José Gómez, Jonnae Thompson, and Justin Marks were organizers of the March 4, 2010 student mobilization against tuition/fee hikes during the Great Recession and for undocumented students. The three alumni will speak about the March 4^th mobilization, the LAPD crackdown of the protest and arrest of six of the marchers, and the subsequent legal struggle to have charges dropped.

To contextualize this mobilization and CDSC’s tenth anniversary, Reverend James M. Lawson, Jr. will discuss the longer arc of peoples’ mobilizations and his role in CDSC’s formation.Registration for the webinar is required.
