Dr. Taylor is Professor of Africana Studies at UC Berkeley and author of The Promise of Patriarchy: Women and the Nation of Islam (2017). Dr. Taylor will speak on the life, politics, and organizing of Frances M. Beal, the journalist, theoretician, organizer, and feminist who coined the intersectional notion of ‘double jeopardy’ to analyze the racialized and gendered experiences of African American women. Dr. Taylor’s talk examines the life experiences that were formative in Frances Beal’s construction of her Black feminist house.
