This year for Asian Pacific American Heritage Month the Asian American Studies Pathways Project and the Asian American Studies Department in conjunction with the EOP Center, EOP DREAM Center, University Student Union, Distinguished Speaker Fund, Civil Discourse and Social Change, and Revolutionary Scholars will be hosting a free screening of “‘Breathin’: The Eddy Zheng Story” on Tuesday, May 7th @ 5:30PM in the Oviatt Library’s Ferman Presentation Room.  Doors open at 5:30 and the screening begins at 6:00PM.

“‘Breathin’” examines the incarceration, politicization, and activism of Eddy Zheng who, along with a multiracial group of inmates, struggled for Ethnic Studies courses at San Quentin.  Eddy currently works with current and former Asian American and Pacific Islander inmates through the Asian Prisoner Support Committee and is actively involved with issues of Asian American detention and deportation. Eddy will be at the screening along with social justice documentarian Ben Wang, the film’s director, who will host a Q&A session after the screening.
