Aquatic Therapeutic Exercise Program

Aquatic Therapeutic Exercise (Assisted Program)

Clients can sign up for a one-on-one assisted aquatic exercise session when they need significant physical assistance. An individualized exercise program is designed after thorough aquatic evaluation. Students from the department of kinesiology and student staff and interns will assist the clients with performing the aquatic exercise program under clinical supervision.

Adapted Aquatics For Children

center of achievement staff assisting a young client in poolIndividualized aquatic activity programs for children with special needs.  The program emphasizes adapted aquatic skills, water safety, balance and mobility.

Aquatic Arthritis

Clients can sign up for aqua arthritis class which is a low intensity aquatic exercise which includes balance activity, strength, cardio, and posture. This class is not only limited for people with arthritis. Anyone with other orthopedic conditions who can be independent in the water are welcome. 

Aqua Pilates

center of achievement clients in aquatic group exerciseClients can sign up for the aquatic pilates class which focuses on overall strength, upper and lower extremities, and core stability. This class uses different equipment such as aqua dumbbells, noodles, and works on overall strength for balancing the body strength. This class is offered for all community members, CSUN staff, and students.   

 

Deep Water Strengthening Exercises

center of achievement clients in aquatic group exerciseDeep water exercises are group classes where one instructor is in charge of 8-10 clients in a deep water setting (7 feet water). These exercise group classes are ideal for individuals who need to avoid weight-bearing during exercise (e.g. recent joint-replacement surgery, obesity, chronic low-back pain, arthritis in the hip or knee). The program can help you improve strength, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance with minimized stress to your joints. 

Aqua Dance

Clients can sign up for a dance choreographed routine with upbeat music in the water. This class focuses on strength, balance, cardio, posture, and walking while you are dancing and having a great, upbeat time. 

Aquatic Evaluation

center of achievement staff testing a client in poolAquatic evaluation class is offered after the client shows they are water safe first. Comprehensive evaluation of water safety and aquatic skills is available. The Center's clinical staff will perform thorough assessment of water safety, basic aquatic skills, level of comfort, mobility and balance.This service includes an evaluation report and an individually designed program card.
