Open Enrollment General Questions
What is Open Enrollment?
The Open Enrollment period is the time each year when employees can enroll in benefits coverage or change their current benefits coverage for the upcoming year.
What are the Open Enrollment dates this year?
The Open Enrollment period for 2024 benefits is Monday, September. 16, 2024 through Friday, October. 11, 2024 (Close of business).
If I do not want to make any changes do I need to take any action during the open enrollment period?
Your current elections, except for dependent care and health care reimbursement accounts, will roll over to the 2025 plan year. You must re-enroll in the flexible spending accounts each year.
Who is eligible to participate?
Active employees with appointments that exceed six months and one day, with a time base of at least .5. Academic Year (AY) lectures and coaches must be appointed for a least one semester with a time base of .4 (6 units or greater). Employees who do not meet eligibility requirements may qualify for health care under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
If I am not benefit eligible can I still enroll in a voluntary plan?
Employees who do not meet eligibility may still be eligible to enroll in many of the voluntary plans (Health/Dependent Care Reimbursement, auto and home insurance, Pet Insurance, or the legal plan).
How do I obtain an overview of available benefits?

How do I obtain my CalPERS Health Plan Statement?
By viewing your CalPERS Health Plan Statement available through your personalized my|CalPERS account, you can view your current plan and any specific health benefit changes that may affect you in the upcoming year. If you do not have an account, you can create one by going to the my|CalPERS Log In page, and selecting Register Now.
How do I view my current benefit plans?
Log into the CSUN Portal, and select HR from the top navigation bar. Select Benefits from the drop down menu, and then select "Benefits Summary."
How do I make changes to my plans?
Once you have decided upon your choice of a medical and dental plan, to receive FlexCash, or to participate in a Health Care/Dependent Care Reimbursement Account navigate to the CSUN homepage, login to the CSUN portal and select the "Enroll in My Benefits" link in the Human Resources/Employee pagelet.
When is the on campus in-person Benefits and Wellness Fair?
The on campus in-person Benefits and Wellness Fair will take place on Wednesday September 25 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. in the USU, Northridge Room.
When is the Virtual Benefits & Wellness Fair and what vendors are attending?
The Virtual Benefits & Wellness Fair will take place Wednesday, October 2, 2024 | 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. via Zoom.

How do I compare the medical plans?
Full details on health plans options are available at https://www.calpers.ca.gov/. In your personalized my|CalPERS account, you can view your current plan, and any specific health benefit changes that may affect you in the upcoming year. If you do not have an account, you can create one by going to the my|CalPERS Log In page, and selecting Register Now.
If I am changing medical plans do I need submit additional supporting documentation?
Unless you are adding a new dependent, you do not need to submit supporting documentation.
What are my Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO) health plan choices?
The PPO’s are PERS Platinum, PERS Gold and PORAC (restricted for paying members of Peace Officers Research Association of California).
What are my Heath Maintenance Organizations (HMO) health plan choices?
The HMOs are Anthem Blue Cross Traditional & Select, Blue Shield Access+, Blue Shield Trio, Health Net Salud y Mas, Kaiser Permanente, UnitedHealthcare Alliance and UnitedHealthcare Harmony.
What are the 2025 premiums rates for the health plans?

What kind of supporting documentation must be submitted if I enrolled my dependents?
You can view this information at https://www.csun.edu/benefits/enrolling-benefits-program.
I have changed plans. When do I receive new medical cards?
Medical insurance cards (when applicable) will be mailed to your home in either late December or early January.

How do I enroll in the Premier VSP plan?
To learn about and enroll in the Premier VSP, visit csuactives.vspforme.com or call 800-400-4569 Note: The Premier VSP plan will not show in your portal.
How do I compare the dental plans?
