CSUN AAS and SFV JACL Manzanar Pilgrimage 2024

Space is limited. Must register to attend! Please RSVP by April 24.

The CSUN Asian American Studies Department (CSUN AAS) and the San Fernando Valley Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League (SFV JACL) invite you to join us on Saturday, April 27, 2024 for a one-day visit to the Manzanar National Historic Site. Approximately 10,000 Japanese Americans were incarcerated at that site out of the total of 120,000 Japanese Americans incarcerated by the U.S. Government during the Second World War.

The event will take CSUN students from the Asian American Studies Department and related persons (CSUN AAS faculty, staff, alumni, and supporters) on the 55th Annual Pilgrimage to the Manzanar National Historic Site alongside members of the San Fernando Valley Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League. SFV JACL members of the pilgrimage include survivors and descendants of the incarceration at Manzanar from 1942 to 1945. Sharing the same buses and attending the same on-site programming, we hope to engage CSUN AAS students with the living history of the unconstitutional U.S. wartime incarceration of Japanese Americans.

Meeting Location:

Participants will meet at the San Fernando Valley Japanese American Community Center at 12953 Branford St., Pacoima at 6:30 AM for a 7:00 AM departure to the Manzanar National Historic Site.
