New hires committed to district, school sites
During the July 24 board meeting, two more hires were approved, including Dr. Adam Almeida’s return to the district as Malibu High School Principal. Someone who Shelton noted as “not a stranger” to the district, Almeida was assistant principal at Malibu from 2019-2022, and has recently been working as an assistant principal of La Canada High School and a part-time lecturer and university supervisor at Cal State Northridge. -- Santa Monica Daily Press
CSUN Men’s Soccer Kicks Off Exhibition Games This Friday Night
CSUN Men's Soccer begins its exhibition season this Friday against The Master's University, offering free admission to fans. The team, featuring 15 returners and 13 newcomers, aims to leverage previous experience as it prepares for a challenging 2024 season opener against James Madison on August 22. CSUN will also face San Diego and UCLA in their exhibition games. Elizabeth Dorssom Receives the 2024 Michael Brintnall Teaching and Learning Award
Dr. Dorssom earned a Political Science PhD in American Politics and Public Policy and Administration from the Truman School of Government and Public Affairs at the University of Missouri. Prior to receiving her PhD, Dr. Dorssom received a BA in Women’s Studies from Chatham University and an MPA in Public Sector Management and Leadership from California State University-Northridge. The Missing Piece: How Writing Middle Grade Helped Solidify My Cultural Identity, a guest post by Ashley Granillo
Ashley Jean Granillo is a Mexican American writer and educator hailing from the San Fernando Valley. She has her BA and MA in Creative Writing from California State University Northridge and holds her MFA in fiction from the University of California Riverside, Palm Desert. She is also a member of Las Musas, a collective of Latinx authors whose gender identity aligns with femininity. Her short story “Besitos” was featured in Where Monsters Lurk & Magic Hides, a Latine/x short story genre anthology.
